Hello everyone I am very new to the stock trading and investing scene but I have a real passion. Particularly for telecommunications. I was just wondering what some of you more experienced gentlemen thought of what is happening with Nokia? Is this the beginning of the end? Motorola failed to jump onto digital and the company suffered, similar story here but with smartphones? I recently bought 400 shares on a simulator of Nokia, I have high hopes that there new and last plan of action will revive them. Would love to hear others opinions.

I've been hearing it's incredibly cheap and a good value. Dividend at something like 6.4 %... their Q2 results will suck and their failure to get in on smartphones and tablets will hurt them, but much of their market is overseas, where people can't quite afford hihg-margin smartphones (and carriers aren't subsidizing them). Good buy in my book.
I have to say I like Nokia. Heck, I still use one of their old phones. In my opinion it's one of the best designed phones ever (it even has a flashlight!). They have been in the game a long time and if anyone can pull themselves out of the mess they are in, it's them. ricardoghunter is right their numbers are not expected to impress and they are a bit behind the eight ball on the tablet train but they still are, if memory serves, the worlds biggest manufacturer of hand-held devices, i.e. cell phones, and still maintain a large market share. As ricardoghunter also mentioned they have a healthy dividend!. All that being said I do believe that there are tough times ahead. Recent downgrades and comments, along with other factors, all point to a turbulent future. I will be watching to see how far down the rabbit hole goes and then make my wager.

Nokia has to move very aggressively into the emerging markets - much more than they are in now. They have to capture the people who want to switch to a smartphone but don't want bells and whistles. Therefore they must compete heavily on price - will Microsoft let them?
NOK:A nice gap today, but not confident we hit bottom yet. We just may have hit the 52 week low, which is both simultaneously a good and bad sign. Still like everything I liked before and will hopefully find a nice entry before the ex date as I do like the 6%+ dividend. The points brought to light by others are valid and do heed warning. While they do face hurdles, this is still a nice looking company. While recent sentiment amongst analysts turns sour and downgrades fuel the shorts, I think it still has a $15 price target on it (but don't quote me on that). IMHO This one is not a quick flip candidate but will return results.DDT

To compete with the others, Nokia must capitalize on those who have not yet bought a phone and are hesitant to get something "complicated". This is a small group and must be expanded through the use of heavy marketing and in-store demos. It's doing nothing of the sort now. Also, it must leverage global sales as more and more countries grow their middle class.
