Ahh yes this little b4sta*d, pardon my French. I originally jumped into this one when they announced their last offering of $6M in common stock and warrants, but didn't time it right and ended up getting in at the tail end (0.89) of the run up, then it dropped. I didn't need the cash at the time and hate taking a loss; plus I like their areas of research (HIV, Herpes and Malaria vaccines) so I just held on to it. Since then its been slow going but it looks like it could be on another run. Now we have word of them offering another $17M in common stock and warants, which in my opinion is both good and bad but I am hoping for a repeat performance of the first offering. It is still to early to tell but I am hoping that we have a nice little cup forming. I am not yet comfortable with investing more into this company, but I'm also not selling yet.

I believe the
results of phase 3 are due early 2010 (not sure if it's in the calendar yet).

    <Technical>

    DMI (ADX): Confirmed Uptrend
Slow Stoch: K line just crossed over the D line
MACD: Above signal line, averages trending higher

    <Financials>
Ok, their financials are not that good, but they are not out of line for a company of their type (clynical stage).
No long term debt and Q2 earnings announcement is expected on 08/03/09. 16% Institutional owned.

Remember always do your own research. Now that that's out of the way, any thoughts?

What about clinically? Do we know much about their TNFerade drug? It looks like another interim report is due in early 2010 for the phase III. Any early thoughts?

    Morning,

This is Michael Vlaicu from StocksHaven Investments bringing you our first e-mail for the early alert picks subscribers. Keep in mind this is not meant in any way to be a full analysis, or anything close to a final full profile. That will follow in the afterhours, and if you've been an avird reader for some time now, you will know that is my usual trend. So, without further adeu, here is a brief overview of GenVec, Inc. (Public, NASDAQ:GNVC)

    About
GenVec, Inc. (NASDAQ: GNVC) is a biopharmaceutical company developing novel gene-based therapeutic drugs and vaccines. Each of the gene-based therapeutic product candidates uses a common patent-protected technology platform to deliver genes that produce medically beneficial proteins directly at the site of disease.

Products: Ground-breaking Cancer Treatments & Vaccines

    * TNFerade™ represents a novel approach to treating cancer in combination with radiation and/or chemotherapy by introducing tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), a potent anti-cancer protein, directly into tumors. Pancreatic cancer is the lead indication for TNFerade™. They are conducting a 330-patient randomized, controlled Phase III clinical trial (the PACT study) designed to assess the safety and clinical benefit of using TNFerade™ in combination with standard of care treatment in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. In addition to the Phase III PACT study, TNFerade has been and is currently being evaluated for its potential use in other indications such as head and neck cancer, esophageal cancer, and rectal cancer.

World-renowned public figures recently diagnosed with pancriatic cancer - Patrick Swazy (MOVIE STAR) & Steve Jobs (CEO OF APPLE) - Exposure on disease rising, a lot of unmet needs.
YouTube - Healthbeat - Pancreatic Cancer

Each year in the United States, about 42,470 individuals are diagnosed with this condition and 35,240 die from the disease.

Pancreatic cancer has one of the highest fatality rates of all cancers and is the fourth highest cancer killer in the United States among both men and women.

    * TherAtoh Atonal therapy is a product concept to restore hearing or balance function through the regeneration of critical cells of the inner ear. Hearing and balance require specialized cells of the inner ear called sensory hair cells. During embryonic development a gene termed atonal (ATOH) induces the generation of these cells. GenVec has shown preclinically that the production of the ATOH protein results in the formation of new inner ear sensory hair cells, and the restoration of hearing and balance function.

There are currently no effective treatments available for patients who have lost all balance function, and hearing loss remains a major unmet medical problem.

The cost of medical care for patients with balance disorders has been estimated to exceed $1 billion per year. (huge market possibility)

They also are using GenVec's proprietary adenovector technology to develop vaccines for infectious diseases.

    * Foot-and-mouth disease antiviral and vaccine program in collaboration with the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the United States Department of Agriculture/Agricultural Research Services (USDA-ARS) HIV vaccine in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

HIV Program being funded through a subcontract managed and administered by SAIC-Frederick, Inc. worth up to $50 million.

    * Malaria vaccine in collaboration with U.S. Navy and PATH's Malaria Vaccine Initiative
    * RSV vaccine under an SBIR grant from the NIH
    * HSV-2 vaccine under an SBIR grant from NIAID

GenVec, Inc. is based in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Received a Phase 2 Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support the development of GenVec's vector production technology. (Worth approx. 2.5 Million)

Great price to enter given that the 52wk high was 1.55, this was atributed to a their lead product, TNFerade receiving FDA Fast track Designation for treatment of Pancreatic Cancer
    GenVec Inc (GNVC.O) Key Developments | Stocks | Reuters.com
"GenVec, Inc. announced that TNFerade has been granted Fast Track product designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its proposed use in the treatment of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The designation is based on GenVec having provided evidence of the potential to improve survival in patients with pancreatic cancer. Drugs designated for Fast Track are intended for the treatment of a life-threatening condition and have demonstrated the potential to address unmet medical needs. Fast track designation does not apply to a product alone but to a combination of a product and specific indication. This designation provides for expedited regulatory review. Should events warrant, GenVec will be eligible to submit a U.S. biologics license application (BLA) for TNFerade on a rolling basis. Under certain conditions, this permits the FDA to review sections of the BLA prior to receiving the complete submission. "

Lastly, as a bullish sign of future outlook, take a look at the Major holders.
Number of Institutions Holding Shares: 36
% of Shares Held by Institutional & Mutual Fund Owners: 13%
Now, if these numbers don't impress you, take a look yourself at the quality of these institutions
GNVC: Major Holders for GenVec, Inc. - Yahoo! Finance - if you've been around the investment niche for quite some time, you will recognize names by the likes of Vanguard, Wellington, RHO, and Bank of America -- to name a few.

Lastly, where do I see this going in the near future? Well once the Phase III finish, and given how confident the company must be from receiving fast track approval, I expect this stock to reach $2 or more very soon which is in line wit hthe Yahoo 1YR price estimate. Now take into consideration that we are in the 9th month, and the fast track approval news was given in december, the phase III study should finalize in the next few months paving the way towards a smooth ride from FDA regularts, given positive test results. Add to this the fact that their lead product is also being evaluated for its potential use in other indications such as head and neck cancer (phase II Study), esophageal cancer, and rectal cancer. They also have another great product in the pipleine for Hearing & Balance loss that targets a $1 billion dollar a year industry. Moreover, a serious vaccine program in which they have been funded up to $50M since 2004, and also received a $2.5M grant, only shows GenVec's unique ability to generate cash when needed.

This is only meant as a brief. info e-mail. The article tonight will be much more enriched with information and financial analysis, with product potential and target markets.

    Good luck,

    Michael Vlaicu

    Default GNVC making a move

It looks like GNVC is about to make a breakout next week due to the above average volume. Even though the overall market is down, it is up 8% on a Friday no less. I'm long on GNVC, only holding a small shares in the company as I am still learning the stock market.

how can you think it will make a breakout if you are new to the stock market....like, it being up 8% on a friday doesn't quite mean anything....i mean there are other stocks that are up more than that, on a friday...and they may just get corrected on the monday.
