CTIC and SLXP both applied for priority review on the same day, which
means that if both are granted priority review, they will both get
approval on December 24th 2009.
If this were to happen, it would mean a lot of work for the FDA
because they might not be able to finish the review process for both
companies by December 24th. To solve this problem, the FDA granted
SLXP priority review with a "possible" approval on December 24th.
However, the FDA also scheduled an Advisory Committee in late February
2010, which means that SLXP will not get approval until February
February 2010.
So that SLXP will not think the February 2010 extension is an
injustice, the FDA "opted" for Standard Review for CTIC and also gave
CTIC more time to prove the merits of Priority Review.
The whole point I want you to understand is this: SLXP and CTIC cannot
get approval the same day because it would be a lot of work for the
FDA. Though SLXP received priority review, they will not get approval
on December 24; it will be February 2010 instead. So, the position of
December 24th will be given to CTIC, and that means Priority Review
for CTIC!
So, by September 4th, CTIC will get Priority Review!!!!
