Weather to sell your stock or not depends on a lot of factors beside the general market.

    - In which sectors are you invested? Small biotech companies will probably not be affected much, but large energy corporations probably will.

    - What is your investment timeframe? Were you after a quick profit or a long term one? If you play long term it should not concern you that much, but if you will need your money next week this could be a problem.

You should analyse this news based on your own portfolio and your own investment strategy before making any decision.

Thanks! I had small extra money (~10K) to play with and I started buying in 2006, e.g. PCU, EMC, VMW, FCX. I went up ~15K at the height of market in late 2007 and then dropped like a rock sine then. I was irresponsible in that I did not do anything but watching (i did not know what to do). I started changing portfolio towards biotech/pharma in June 2009 and made some money on HGSI. So right now I have ~9K (big profit from 4K at the rock bottom). I want to use this as future investment, namely I do not need to cash them out immediately. I was just scared if what happened in 2008 would happen again now and it may be better to keep the cash. I have some stocks on SQNM, SOMX, SPPI, CITI etc. Any advice? Thanks.

Besides the advice from erlik, I offer my humble opinion.

Markets will go up and they will go down, that is the nature of the beast. While it can be an intimidating and harsh mistress, the market can also bear some very tasty fruit. Here are a couple of rules that I apply to trading. They are listed in no particular order.

    - Don't try to buck the overall market trend, one or two down days does not signify an overall market trend and vice versa. If the market is trending up, look to be bullish, if it's sinking go bearish.
    - Pick stocks in sectors that are outperforming the overall market(s).
    - Don't risk anymore than you can afford to loose.
    - When you get in a trade, know when you want to get out.
    - Know your tolerance for risk and loss, this goes along with the statement above.
    - Do as much research as possible about a security before jumping in.
    - Read as much as you can about investing and trading strategies/theories etc. and how the markets work.

And above all else do not make decisions based on feelings or some "hot" stock tip you heard. Take the time to do your own DD and trade on facts not fiction or rumors.
