What I look for most in an on-line broker is trade execution and low fees. Second would be the availability of research materials and tools, as now days most anything can be found on-line. Charting is not as important (to me) as there are quite a few good sites that allow you to create custom charts. As for price the cheaper the better, as long as it is a reputable broker.

I personally use Scottrade, as they met my conditions but also have to confess it is the only on-line broker I have used so far. I am happy with them and have never had a problem with order execution and it's light-years ahead of the way we used to trade, yes we actually used to do this via the telephone and fax.

I use scottrade also. It is fast and reasonably cheap per trade, although costrs can add up a bit for stocks under $1.00. As far as graphs, just do a google search and you will find lots of places with free graphs. Some of them are not too bad. Scottrade also has graphs in their Elite software. They are pretty good.

I also use Scottrade, and a good thing about them is that you can call them and they will guide you through whatever you need help with. It is good to have someone who can help.

I used TD Waterhouse but the fees were killing me so I switched to Questrade after listening to some advice from friends. Website's clean and organized and customer service was good.

More people are suggesting Questrade no a days. Currently I am using scotiaiTtrade, so far I don’t have much complain about this broker. However it takes some time to execute a buying or selling order from OTC. But I guess this is ok for OTC. This broker also support after hours and pre hours trading.

    Default What to look for

Quick ACH deposit and withdrawal of funds posting to your account. TD ameritrade has the fastest post to accounts, with purchasing power being there the moment the $ hits. Etrade has immediate access to withdraw funds the moment a security is sold (based upon having a margin acct).
