I recently signed up with Questrade and wanted to share my opinions with others. Perhaps some ppl have more to add.

It took roughly 10 days to get approved, so plan ahead of time.

I have contacted Questrade twice on Customer Service (one email, one live
support) for some basic stuff and it was taken care of. I don't really
get into complicated things, but have heard negative things. For me so far so good.

Depositing money into my questrade account was as simple as paying a utility bill online. The funds take about 2-4 days to transfer (a bit of a pain considering TD Waterhouse was within minutes).

Removing funds I'm currently working on. They appear to want a void cheque to use electronic funds transfer (why wouldn't they do this when I signed up?) Basically test it first before you need the money.

The biggest thing I don't like is two different accounts for CAN and US
currencies. You need to fund them separately. With TD Waterhouse they would do the CAN-US conversion on the spot if I wanted to by a US equity. It
takes 2-4 days to exchange funds.

Questrade has this weird thing where you have three accounts (three
sites/three usernames/three passwords). I made them all the same for
ease.
1. trading platform account (www.questrader.com)
2. general account (exchange funds/remove funds/profile stuff)
3. document account (pension.com)
This really bothered me a first, but you really only use the trading
account regularly. But TD has everything in one place, duh.

Regarding Fees:
Questrade is $4.95-$9.95 + ECN fees.
ECN fees are charged by the Exchange.
My typical ECN fees are $1.45-$15. So, my most expensive questrade has
been $24.95. A helluva lot cheaper.

I'm not 100% certain however it appears OTC (over-the-counter) trades can only be done over the phone and you can't buy into any IPO's.

Using the Margin account is simple and the interest is deducted from you account running the 15th-15th.
