I'm curious of other traders margin use. What % of your stock holdings are bought on margin? I always have stocks out there bought on margin, is this a typical practice?

marketwatch, I don't ever buy stock on margin. It undermines my ability to hold for the long term. Otoh, margin purchases are quite common; I don't know if 'typical.'

(I do have a margin account, but it's because I had to set it up as a pattern day trader, which I'm not except every now and then. Stock trading rules are crazy, especially this stupid PDT thing.)

I have used up to 400%... Cant hold that all overnight. Being identified as a day trader you can use about double your money to buy and hold over night if needed. Then I can use double that for trading throughout the day and cant hold that overnight.

    Magnify your gains

    Magnify your losses

Only time I use margin account is if I'm waiting for sells to clear and buying something else.
