I would like to see more restrictions put on shortselling, the market needs to recover before we can allow it to go on.
Ron Insana from CNBC said something Friday that really cuaght my attention. He mentioned that the government may be considering some sort of legislation to prevent or curb short selling of stock. Since this is how most of us make our living it has me concerned.
Has anyone else heard anything about this and if so what are they or what would they consider with respect to restriction with short selling? I think they would do way more harm than good by curbing our ability to get in and out of stocks on a short term basis. Talk about harming the economy. It would thro a ton of curve balls to those of us that trade full time and may even eliminate our ability to trade short completely.
If they do try and move forward with some sort of restrictions by way of legislation we all need to speak up to our respective government officials and voice our concerns over this particular issue.
I look forward to hearing your input and updates regarding this touchy and serious subject.
Good trading!!!

Legal short selling is the same as playing the long. You either think a stock will increase and therefore buy and go long or bet a stock will decrease and short it. They are two sides of the same coin. Imposing unfair regulations on shorting would be a slap in the face of capitalism. What they should do (and they have been doing more recently) is crack down on the illegal activity of naked short selling.
